With global demand for face masks surging in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, UK-based planarTECH is working with Thailand-based IDEATI to market and distribute its “2AM” line of antibacterial, anti-static masks enhanced with graphene.
The mask’s coating is made from graphene and other carbon-based nanomaterials, according to Graphene-Info. The coating gives the mask a number of improvements, including antibacterial and anti-static properties. The cotton fabric of the mask is washable and reusable up to 10 times without sacrificing its antibacterial or antistatic qualities. For added comfort, the mask evenly distributes heat across the face and includes a water-repellant inner coating.
“This product has been under development for some time, and we sincerely hope it can have a beneficial impact in this time of global crisis,” said Ted P. Thirapatana, director of IDEATI, noting that the company “sincerely believe[s] that graphene-enhanced products have reached a tipping point in the market.”
The 2AM masks are currently being mass-produced and distributed. As concerns over increasing global pollution increase, there will likely still be a robust market for masks with these properties even after the pandemic is over.
