A new £8.6 million research project led by University of Cambridge engineers plans to explore how Digital Twins, smart materials, and data science can work together to improve the digital road infrastructure.

The project aims to improve roads and to enable them to measure and monitor their own performance and state over time. The researchers plan to use graphene-infused concrete coatings which would allow for the roads to self-sense and heal, making them less expensive, more reliable, and safer.
